T20 Asia Blaze and T20 Blaze 2018

Elliott Davis T20 Asia Blaze and T20 Blaze

The start of the 2018 cricket season saw the beginning of this year’s Elliot Davis T20 Asia Blaze and a new T20 Blaze competition in south London. The Elliot Davis T20 Asia Blaze sees teams from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and England return to action.

In south London, the T20 Blaze features teams representing Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, the West Indies as well as a Tamil team and a team from the Refugee Cricket Project.

Both competitions are run by London Tigers and Capital Kids Cricket with the east London competition supported by Elliot Davis and Essex CCB and the south London competition supported by the Surrey Cricket Foundaton.

Afghanistan Crowned T20 Blaze London Champions

The 8th of August saw Afghanistan (who beat Bangladesh earlier in the day) win the T20 Asia Blaze Play off (east London) and take on Tamil, the play off champions of the T20 Blaze (Surrey).

Batting first Afghanistan posted a total of 147 from their 20 overs. At the halfway stage, many in the small crowd that had gathered to watch the game thought Tamil would storm to victory. Afghanistan, however, bowled brilliantly to restrict the Tamil top order’s scoring options and eventually the pressure told as, requiring 15 an over in the last 3 overs, Tamil were bowled out.

We would like to congratulate and thank everyone who has taken part as a player, umpire, scorer, organiser, team manager during this year’s competition. Without your volunteered time, we wouldn’t be able to run this kind of competition! THANK YOU!

We already cannot wait for next year’s competition when we hope to expand and bring in a West Indies team!
