In the women’s competition Wanstead CC, last year’s champions, held onto their crown as they went unbeaten in their matches against Harrow Town and Southall. The Southall team, comprised of players and coaches from our Spikes Bridge Junior CC project, were competing in the Sixes for the first time. They enjoyed the experience so much that, in their words, they “can’t wait to be back next year!”.
The youth competition featured 6 teams from across London. These included teams from Tower Hamlets Wicketz, Leyton Wicketz, two teams from Spikes Bridge Junior CC and two teams from London Tigers. After topping their respective groups, Leyton faced Tower Hamlets in the final. After a positive batting perfomance in the first innings, Leyton Wicketz set a very competitive total of 46 to win. Tower Hamlets were equally as positive in their innings and, after hitting 9 runs off the final over, emerged victorious and became the inaugural winners of the Youth London Sixes.
